I am a stan of food trucks. I'm amazed at the food that can be made inside a truck. I'm blown away at how the people who cook in them can be so happy all the time because that has got to be super hot and not easy. And I love that this truck can travel to different locations, and frankly I need more to travel closer to me.
The only downside of most of the food trucks here is their distance from my home, as sometimes the food is not as easy for me to eat in my car in the parking lot where the truck is. By the time I get home, the food is still tasty but I know that I've lost some of the magic in my 20+ minute drive back to my house. And if there are fries involved, my air fryer gets a workout to help bring them back to life.
This week, I want to share 2 of my current favorite food trucks you can find here in Baton Rouge. First up, Tre's Street Kitchen.
Find them at 12333 Jefferson Highway
Just look at their
Instagram and you'll see why you need to check this truck out...it will probably be because of the crawfish nachos and heads up, that's not an every day item so have a back up plan! That was my experience. I finally made my way across town with crawfish nachos on my mind and in my heart. When I arrived, they were very much not on the menu that day and I tried not to look too heartbroken and hungry.
Recommended to me in their place was the Street Burger, their best seller. Who am I to question the people? I took it with everything - the bacon, the friend jalapenos, the fried egg, the cheese, the chipotle mayo, the Street sauce, and the normal boring burger toppings (lettuce, tomato and onion...but I took the onion off)
The Street Burger
First impression, "dang this bag is heavy." Second impression after getting in the car and opening the box, "OH! I get fries too!" Third impression, "That's a bigger burger than I thought." Fourth impression, "There's no way I can eat this in my car." So off to the house it was. Let me add here that I hit every red light between Tre's Street Kitchen and my house. The universe did not want me to savor this burger right away. But when I got home, it was game on.
Main impression: This could easily be the best burger that I've eaten. I would definitely place it in the top 5 burgers I've had in my life. Everything was cooked perfectly. The jalapenos were crisp, the egg wasn't overly runny, the bacon was crisp, the Street sauce is something I want a couple of bottles of around my house. It was so good that I purposely didn't eat many fries just so I could finish this burger.
If you haven't been here, go get the Street Burger and let me know what you think. If you go and see that they are serving crawfish nachos, give me a call so I can drop everything to go get some. If you've been, what are some of your favorite items on their menu?
I'll be back later this week with a report on another of my favorite food trucks in the city, Chicky Sandos. Do you like food trucks? If so, what are some local ones that you love?
