New Orleans Adventure

Hello internet friends! I can see that this goal to post once a week may be slightly ambitious, BUT I'm going to try and make myself post 3-4 times a month, even if it isn't once a week. I've been MIA on most aspects of life because I was in New Orleans for a little adventure.

Yep, that's me! Proud mom of a fourth chair soprano! Kiddo made All-State choir this year so we've been down in New Orleans for all the fun. I'm more of an introvert, and never really feel like I fit in that great with the other parents at the school she is at, so my plan was to mainly explore the city (get the steps in for that 500 miles goal) and knock out some books on my TBR.

However, I got to hang out with some of the other moms and while I still feel way out of my depth (I could not contribute to the conversation on cotillions because I have no idea what those are), I really did enjoy hanging out with them and getting to know them a little better.

I did go on some solo adventures to a few places, ok to a coffee shop and a bakery, and even though they could not have had more different vibes, I really enjoyed both of them, so I'll give a quick run down on each of them in a different post. (Making a calendar reminder to hold myself accountable to that!)

The kids absolutely crushed it in their concert, and I can't wait until those videos of the concerts slide into my inbox. Kiddo had a blast and has not stopped talking about how much fun it was since we got home. I love that she was able to make some friends from other schools who share her interest in music and that she got to hang out a little more with kids from her school that she doesn't hang out with much.

We stayed an extra night in New Orleans, and I wanted to do something fun before we left to come home. I debated heavily between a few things: the aquarium, the insectarium , the zoo ... I finally settled on the World War II Museum. Kiddo loves history and museums, and my dad is a veteran who also loves history and museums. They are the kind who will read EVERYTHING, so needless to say we made it through about half of the museum before it was too much mentally and emotionally on all of us.

When you start the museum experience, you get a dog tag, and you get assigned a person who you can follow their story throughout the museum. 3 of us had people who were "on the road to Tokyo" and we all could say our highlight was finding out what our person had gone through. If you're ever in New Orleans, I highly recommend taking a few days to go through this museum! One thing they do that I think is cool, is that you can get a discounted ticket to come back the next day. If I had remembered that it was a holiday on Monday, I would have stayed an extra night and done that so we could finish seeing it all. Oh well, now we have an excuse to go back!
