What I Ate: La Contea

Another new to me restaurant I've been wanting to try that I finally tried for Restaurant Week: La Contea. I felt classy eating here because it's one of those white table cloth with wine glasses already on the table kind of place. Which made me almost abandon the plan to order from the restaurant week menu and just get a pizza, but I stuck to the plan.

To start, they bring out some fresh bread and olive oil/pesto mixture to dip it in. The olive oil/pesto didn't have any flavor at all. It was lacking, and the bread kind of needed a little something because it also didn't really have much flavor.

For my appetizer, I went with the crawfish wontons. I want to say that they didn't have enough filling, but I also understand that any more filling would have made them pop open (it's my classic mistake when I try making wontons at home). They were good, but I didn't really taste a whole lot of crawfish in them. The sweet chili sauce was bomb though.

For my entrée, I went with a sampler, because samplers are my restaurant weakness. This is their Tour of Italy and you get a sampling of their chicken parm, fettucine alfredo, and lasagna.

The chicken parm didn't have pasta, and I'm assuming that an order would come with that and the reason that there wasn't any is because you have all the noodles with the other pastas.

I wasn't a fan of how my aflredo was taking over my other two pastas, but I got over it pretty quickly. Out of the three, the lasagna was my favorite.

Italian desserts are the best desserts and this one did not disappoint. I would like to buy an entire lemon mascarpone cake please, and not just a tease of a slice.

It had a light lemon flavor, melted in my mouth, and the white chocolate shavings on top and the strawberries were the little things that tied all the flavor together. I would gladly go back to just eat this dessert and have a cup of coffee.

All in all, I'd give this restaurant experience a 7.5/10. The food was good, but not great. The service was a solid 10/10. I will definitely go back and try a pizza, and also some of the other dishes. There are plenty of things that came out of the kitchen that looked delicious, so my stomach says it should get another shot soon.
