New Babies

We have some new babies at our house! Well, we had some new babies. Some doves had made a nest in our carport and I have been talking to the momma bird every time I would walk out the door to either get in my car, go dump something in the trash, put something in the shed, or when I would go sit on the bench on the back patio to have my weekend coffee.

Eventually, I added talking to the eggs she was sitting on. Then one morning, while I was having my weekend coffee, I noticed two little heads in the nest with her. The babies had hatched! This was a bittersweet moment for me because it was exciting to see them, but I also knew they would be leaving. I've never seen birds hatch before, and I felt like they were part of the family.

A few days ago, I noticed that the birds were not in the nest, but I did see them on the back patio. After speaking to them, I got in my car and drove to work. When I came home, I saw one sitting on the patio table. As I walked toward him to get a picture, he got scared and flew into our windows, but then ended up sitting on the bench on the patio.

I went inside, knowing that I wouldn't be going out for my nightly devotion time on the patio as long as he was there. I wasn't going to disturb him. I did watch him from the window, which had my family calling me a creeper. I can admit it, I wanted to stare at this little bird just like a mom stares at a newborn baby.

While I was at work yesterday, my mom sent me this picture and told me I've lost my "chill spot", as my daughter calls it. And if there is anyone I would give up my chill spot for, it's this little guy. But I'd really appreciate it if we could work out some timeshare arrangement.
