Rasin' Canes ... But Make it Pizza

I'll admit, sometimes I get some pretty crazy ideas. I've seen people do Raisin' Canes pizzas before and kind of brushed it off. To be honest, I'm not the biggest Canes fan ... I know, blasphemy for someone who lives in Baton Rouge! However, I got a weird craving to try making a Canes style pizza, so here's how it went down.

First things first, I ordered a Caniac, because I didn't know how much I actually needed, but in hindsight I could have gotten by with a Box combo for just one pizza.

I also got the premade pizza dough from Trader Joe's. Normally, I like to make my own dough, but in my opinion this is the best store bought dough and it's just as good as anything I would make myself.

Then we started the process of putting this masterpiece together. Sauce, fries, chicken, cheese, bake. No toast, because that was the car snack on the ride home.

We need to talk about cheese. What I learned from this attempt is that the cheese you use matters. I am a fan of the more cheese the better. And not just "more" as in quantity, but also "more" as in variety. I went with an Italian cheese blend, and then a 3 cheese blend. I would love to try this again with some different cheese blends to see what the results are, but I can't complain about the flavors that all of these cheeses brought to the pizza.

And finally, my beautiful finished product. I topped it with a drizzle of Cane's sauce and some Parmesan cheese from the green can, the truly classy stuff. I was VERY surprised at how much I liked this.

I wanted to eat this entire pizza. I wish I could say that I had self control, and I guess I did in the sense that I didn't eat the entire thing. I also threw away the two slices that were left because I knew nobody else would eat it and I wasn't sure if I would still be as excited about it the next day. (This tends to happen when I get some weird cravings.)

All in all, I give this an 8/10, and I would definitely make another one.
